In a post I had earlier, txblu recommended a JD model of mower. I had never really given any thought to acquiring one of these as I always thought NH would be the way to go. Don't know why I felt this way because when I wanted a baler I was holding out for a NH and finally found a JD 224 that I could not pass up. The JD baler is a really fine machine. I was wondering what y'all thought about the older mowers. I know in the NH models that the 469 is really old and that the 479 is newer but still pretty dated. I've heard about wobble boxes and bad rollers. What is a good affordable older mower conditioner? Would like to get one but I am not comfortable that I am making the right choice when I look at the machines.

We run a NI 292? mow-ditioner. Same thing as the Ford 535. We ran the Ford for years until one year the frame split in a waterway. Now that's our parts machine and we run the NI. They're a rare bird in our area, but a little farther south they're everywhere. Mainly because the only Ford dealer was 20 mi. one way and I don't think there really was any NI dealers very local either.

I own a NH 488 and it is a good mower and would recommend it,but some say the IH 990 has a special feature that is hard to overlook. When the mower is raised the rolls seperate and a slug or SKUNK! is easily removed.

IH 990s are great mowers. My father went through three of them and loved each one. They take a licking, and keep on ticking. Nh are good machines, but have a lot of parts to replace compared to IH 990. If you live in iowa I have a 990 for sale, and one for parts.

Clemons iowa to be exact. I am about 8 miles north of State Center, or 60 miles north east of Des Moines. Asking $425.

I used to have a Hesston 1091 that was ok. It was cheap to buy, and I never had to do any major repairs to it. It was real noisy, and had trouble in hard to cut hay. I replaced it with a real nice New Holland 488. I like the NH much much better. It will cut anything and do a good job at it, pulls easy, runs quiet, and if i need them parts are easy to get and it is easy to work on. I have never used a John Deere and hear that they are good, but can't say from experience. Given my choice between my old Hesston, an IH that I have used, and a NH, I will definatly buy another NH when the time comes, even at a higher price.

I need to buy the pulley that mounts on the lower roller of a Hesston PT-10. This pulley has four belt grooves and is where the pittman drive hooks to. Anybody got a parts machine that has this pulley?
THANKS!! P.Womble email [email protected]
