Anyone know anything about the NH 474 haybine? We looked at one and it seems to be a 7 foot machine, looks very much like a cut down 489 except the rolls are single direction not chevron.

Do parts exchange?

Ken, it is a cut down 489. Most parts do exchange. The 474 gave less trouble than the 489 because there was less torque being transferred thru the machine. Steve

Does anyone know the years these machines were produced. I have an opportunity to buy a 474 and would like to know approximately how old it might be.
Also, even though the conditioner rolls look OK, do they wear down like car tires? Sounds like some amount of conditioning decreases over time.
Thanks.

Thanks, we may be able to get a low acreage machine for 1000$ Canadian. It would be nice to have conditioning rollers again despite the 2 ft loss in cut. The new rollers are 1000$ + so even though they won't interchange we may come out ahead.

Ok I reviewed the pics I took when I look it over and both the 489 and the 474 have chevron rollers,

Do they interchange? Our 489 is in better shape but no rubber on the rollers.

Sorry, this is one item that will not interchange. The rolls are identical except the 474 rolls are 2 feet shorter. Steve

I have a 474 and a 489. The 474 is a 7 foot machine and the 489 is a 9 foot machine. Some parts will interchange. I think the wobble box is the same and maybe some of the other parts. However the rolls in the 474 are smaller than the 489 both in diameter and length. Hope this helps. Both are good machines.

I had a 474 and it was great. Had the stub guard package. Nice mower. I sold it for $3,000 this winter and last year I bought a Kuhn 3pt disc mower, the way to go for sure. Speed, that is what it is all about. There are no condition roller like the 474 but I round bale so I don't care.
