Hi, Does anyone know the differance between J.D. Van Brunt grain drill model "A" and a model "B" I have a Van Brunt drill, but it is stenciled model "FB" and a serial no. nothing else. I'm trying to fugure out if I may have a model 'A" or "B" or neither one of those. Thanks.

Thanks a bunch fellas, maybe I can get a photo on here and work this out. I went to the local J.D. dealer, but they weren't very well versed on the drill...they were mighty young. The drill is approximately 25 years older than they were. :) My box is green. The lid is galvanized. I sort of thought it might be a early version...and the "A" and "B" may have been improvements of it. Thanks again...and enjoy the website. Deamer1

My FB has a green box and lid, galvanized underneath on box only, not on lids. Original paint. Have been told due to various production difficulties Deere changed how they finished the drills from time to time.

Local JD dealer can get both an Operators Manual and a Parts Manual. Take him exact model and serial number.

You"ve probably got an FB, the first of the line. FB-A was an updated model that had larger seed boxes for one. It may have had other improvements that I don"t happen to know. The FB-B was a continued improvement on that. the -B model had even larger boxes, used anti-friction bearings in the disks instead of hard-iron bearings, and had different feed cups and tubes. The FB is late-40s-early-50s vintage, FB-A is mid-to late 50s, and FB-B is 1960 to 1970 vintage.
