I have a IH 27 baler, it is in good condition, but one knotter always causes me problems. It is the inside knotter, right one if looking from the back. It pulls the loop of twine through the knot when the bale is pushed back to remove it from the bill hook. The left side never misses a beat. It misses 1 out 15 - 20 if I keep the bale tension down low, but then you get light bales. I adjusted the bill hook tighter and looser, but it didn't seem to change anything. I am wondering if something is worn enough to be causing the problem. I am going to try sisal twine this year and see if it get better. We used a 46 when I was growing up and always used sisal never had a problem with missed bales.

Any help appreciated.

Is the twine being cut off square? If it is ragged the twine knife is either dull or needs to be adjusted. The way you adjust the knife is to put washers between the knife and the knife holder this makes the knife cut the twine sooner and lets the twine bill do its job. But you will have to just try maybe one washer on each bolt or maybe two. And there is a possiblity it is cutting the twine to soon. Just as clear as mud isn,t it.

Likely to be wear or wrong adjustment. New Holland baler manuals have pictures of bad knots, plus their cause. Do you have the IH manual? Maybe it has the same. Obviously the other knotter works with the twine you are using, so that is knot (couldn't resist) the cause. It's in the baler.

I do have the manual, but the trouble shooting guide for the loop being pulled through is not shown. We don't have any good baler people in our area, its all wheat and barley and nobody bales anything. The guys that do bale use the 3 x 4 bales. I'm going to talk to my stepfather in April they used to have a 46 and see if he remembers what would cause it.

Thanks for the help.
