I own some small acerage Blueberries.I guess this would be the "hobby farm'. I own an Allis D-17 that i use for both weed control, bush hogging and any thing else on the farm. Im thinking for summer weed control i would like to use my Atv with a boom attachment and spray rig.It would cause less damage to the fruit than the tractor. Do you guys ever use one of these, and who makes a quality spray pump that can handle chemicals like Round-up. Thanks, Chuck Davis

I have owned one for years and have both the wand and booms for it. We have used it with everything from RU to Sevin. Run some ammonia through it and go to the next thing. Works great when we are trying to spray Alfalfa fields for bugs in the late feb early March timeframe when it is too wet for a tractor to be on the ground. Put it on a 6 wheel Gator and spray right along with no problems. Booms mount to the trailer hitch on the Gator and spray great. Mine is an old Northern unit that has a 60 PSI auto off pump and regulator made by SHURFlo. The $129.00 one on the Northern Tool website states it works with RU

I got one last yr. and love it. I use it in the wanna-be U-Pick operation (20 acres), brush control in planted pines, weed control in ditches and around out buildings. Booms swing in and out adding more manuverability around the place than a tractor and sprayer.

My local county has two ATVs with sprayers mounted on them.

I doubt you want to get into the expense of it, but there are tanks you can get that kind of wrap around the front and rear of the ATV. Both ATVs use the 12 volt electric pump which is easily replaceable from a farm supply store.

The units the county has have flood jet tips on the back and can be angled higher and lower with an electric actuator.

These units work great for soft farm fields and the railroad rights of way, also road ditches where the convention spray truck can't get to.

We won one a raffle years back but don't have an ATV. So we mounted it on a 3pt frame for our small 16hp Kubota. It has the wand attachment and it works great for spraying around fences and buildings. We mounted a push/pull switch on the tractor so we didn't have to get on off the tractor as much. We also installed a return line to keep the chemical mixed up. We store it inside during the winter. We are really pleased with this set-up.

I went with a friend last night to look at a sprayer much like you're referring to. It was at TSC. They look like it'll do the job, and my first impression was that the small electric pump was so inexpensive that it could be replaced every so often without costing an arm and a leg. They had both the boom sprayers and the "boom-less" models using cluster spray heads. I've heard they're the hot set-up for working around tree's.

Just an observation from someone who knows NOTHING about orchard spraying.....John

They work great just watch the water in the tank, it gets to sloshin' around and it'll flip over on its side. Be sure to use 2 ratchet straps to hold it on or it won't stay on the atv. Those are the only two problems we've had with them.

If your close to ILL AGRI-FAB has has overstock sales all the time at various ace hardwares and rural king stores usually large auctions and the FIL got a 25 gallon sprayer and booms for $65.00 was missing an axle but we did not need it as he mounted it to tractor fender.

Thanks guys, I live in N/W IND. and my farm is in S/W MICH. I have a local TSC and many other AG type stores within a 50 mile radius. My main concern is using the round-up as it likes to eat up cheap pumps even if you clean them properly. I have looked at Northern And Agri-fab but they dont say wheather the pumps handle R/U they simply say Chemical resistant.I tried this atv method last fall with my dads set-up and smoked the pump after about 30 minutes. Of course i dont know how old the pump was,if it had been stored and taken care of properly It was a Fimco unit from TSC. Just looking for the best pump for the money. I have 2 15 gallon Fimco tanks one with a pump and one without (Auction last year for 20 bucks.) Chuck Davis
