I'm still tring to decide whats best for me to cut my alfalfa with. How does a disc mower compare to a disc/moco as in drying time? Disc/mocos are so pricey, are they worth the extra money? I also use a tedder, but there's been a shortage of sunshine the past couple yrs with the monsoons and alot of my hay is on the river so I have alot of foggy mornings too. Your weather should be about the same as mine, maybe a week or two ahead of me. Just wondering what you used? Thanks.

I use a disc mower (NI now used to use a BH brand) with a tedder. The key is to ted immediately rather than wait until the hay is almost dry. Then tedder again if need be (with the dew on). I do lose some leaves, but not like I expected when I started. I've also got a NH 474 haybine and my results have been that the tedder on the just wilted hay gets it up just as fast. When I have run the tedder right after the haybine like I do the disc mower it takes about a 1/2 day more off curing. Not been worth the extra cost to me. The discmower without immediate tedding doesnt do much better than a sickle mower for curing (maybe a day).
