New Holland Model 565 Square Baler

I am looking at a New Holland 565 baler with a serial number of 888784. The baler seems to be in good condition. Can anyone tell me how to tell the age of the baler from the serial number? The asking price is $5,500. Is that a reasonable price?

Can"t tell you about the year but I can tell you the 565 is NH"s economy baler. Lighter driveline, old style feed forks, and 4 bar pickup. I have a 565 that I paid $5250 for in 2000 in very good condition so $5500 probably isn"t bad as the 565 is still a current model. To do it again I"d hold out for the larger, heavier 570. My next baler will be a JD 348 because JD parts and service are superior in my area. It will take more effort to make consistent bales in varying conditions with the 565 than with the larger models with rotary feed.

The 565 can be equipped with the same driveline as the 570; in fact, it is recommended on units with a thrower. I know you are unhappy with yours, and that's OK. But a 565 will run with any older NH baler except the high capacity 320-326 etc. I would put one up against a 316 any day of the week, and they were/are no slouch. A new 565 with 72 thrower will list near 18K a good one for $5500 is a bargain. The last used 316 we sold went for $7200.

Thanks for the feedback. I bale mostly 4x4 round bales with a JD 335 and have tried to stay away from square bales due to labor expense. I do need to try and put up about 1000 bales of square bales for local horse folks. The owner of the 565 is quessing that something around 25,000 bales has run through the old baler.

25,000 bales over the life of the baler is nothing. In 3 seasons since I bought it, my Hesston 4550 has done about 30,000.

Funny I've been told by owner's the opposite. That the larger capacity NH 575's and even JD's like to be kept right full to make the nicer bales.

I know little about that particular baler, but my geuss is that it was built somewhere in the mid to late nineties.

Considering the next model up, the 570, can often be seen going for much more than $10,000, $5,500 seems a little low. Might want to check into how much it's baled, how it was maintained, etc.
