I"m going to an auction Saturday to watch an IH 2-MH corn picker. I found where they was made from 1957 to 1964. I was wondering what all Farmalls they would fit. I did"t know if since they was made during the later years of the fast hitch if it would only mount on a fast hitch tractor or not. Does anyone have any idea as to what this picker is worth? The sale bill says it was only used once and has always been shedded. If I buy it, I won"t use it that much. I mainly just want a corn picker just to have one. I thought I might drive a tractor up there and put it on to bring it home, since it isn"t too awfully far from home. Thanks.

We had a 2-MH cornpicker on our M, that we mounted every year until we got a combine in 1980.

They are very well-built and do a good job. An excellent husking bed and blower fan on the elevator means they pick a very clean load.

You need at least one other person to mount it, particularly to help with the gear box and the elevator. If you only want to get it back to your farm from the auction, you might just want to mount the front part and load the gear box and elevator on a seperate trailer.

There are some heavy duty brackets that need to go on the tractor first to mount the front attachment. There is a bracket that goes under the center of the tractor for the hydraulic cylinder. There are also some lift rods that go from this back to the rear axle, where they attach to some pivot brackets. These pivot brackets on the rear axle require the hitch to be removed to get them on.

A 2 MH is rather heavy for a smaller tractor, when we overhauled our M transmission some of the bearings were cracked. They used to say that an M was too small and that a 460 or 560 were better for these pickers. However, I think they are ok for an M as long as you don"t bounce through holes or ditches excessively.

Fit anything from M thru 560. Would also "fit" H, 300, 350, 460 but all of these except 460 are actually under powered for application. IHC also sold brackets for 2-MH to fit on a number of other brand tractors of simular size.

After the 706 & 806 came out I think you could also get a kit to mount the 2MH on them.
