I have been doing some mainteance on my 9N recently including a new paint job. I am about to reinstall the radiator and test the engine to make sure it fires before I put the hood back on. My question, while it is down, should I open pandora's box and take the carb apart? It is accessible with the hood on of course but it seems like a wothwhile thing to do. Mandolinjon

It's as easy to take off and rebuild with the tractor put together as it is if the tractor is taken apart. If it has the Marvel-Schebler carb it's a simple rebuild as long as you make sure to CLEAN IT VERY WELL!

If the tractor ran before, make it run that way again. Then if you are still not satisfied, attack one component at a time until you are. That way you'll know exactly what you did wrong and when.(one bad instructor at comm. coll. can cost thousands and untold strife to straighten a son out after that. Dad may have been in repair business for decades but suddenly knows nothing.) After everything fixed (no leaks) then paint.

Thanks for the advise. I think I will button it up without a rebuild since I can get at it later.

Golden rule of maintenance:If it aint broke dont fix it.Seriously though I would evaluate what comes new with the rebuild kit.If it doesnt leak at the bowl gasket or something like that it might not improve anything.

If the tractor runs well and the float is not leaking, I would not touch it. Steve
