I've been looking at corn pickers. There aren't too many in my area. Only found three so far. Two I haven't had a chance to look at and one was a Dearborn 16-27. Think I've got the model right.
Anyway, are there any that manufacturers still support with parts? Wandering which ones I should look for. Would like to have one that you can still get parts for if possible. Any input appreciated from you experienced guys out there. I have zero experience with them.
thanks,
mike

That dearborn would be a 1 row from 1948 to 1955, later version had ford name till possibly about 1964, no parts support, I have the grey version that is pre 48 and dosen' clean well. The newer deere mentioned use a combine corn head for 2 row up sizes. Decide if you need for 30" or 40" rows first, then how many acres to decide if you need a 1 row or a 3 row or 4 row or a 2 row, that will eliminate most picker models for your search, after that help can be given on particular models that will work

New Idea's are great pickers and as Paul stated, you can get most parts. Late JD's used stationary plates rather than snapping rolls to snap off the cobs. If the corn is relatively dry, you may have less butt shelling with the JD, but my experience would indicate the NI can be adjusted to minimize this concern. I have found JD parts support is unparalleled in the ag industry, so JD picker parts should be available. I would avoid the rest. In particular IH parts could be a real problem. We (dad) had a Dearborn and unless you are just wanting to mess around, buy something better.

I am only familiar with New Idea, they still have parts support through the Agco dealer network. Probably less so on old models, but the 'new' ones from the 70s are quite well supported.

I would guess JD & IHC (now Case) has some support for their newer models as well.
