NH Hayliner 68 (fair price?)

I live in eastern Pa. and I am looking for a baler to go on my IH B-250.The tractor is rated at 30hp. My question is this ..Is this too much for my for my tractor to handle? The baler was shed kept and the manuals and tools are still with it overall it looks to be in good shape.It is not fitted with a kicker this is not a big problem for me as i don't have a hay wagon just now.It is at an equipmnt dealer.The asking price is $650.Is this a good price?I've seen balers go for as little as $50 or $3500 depending on age.I don't know much about the equipment because as akid I was always the one standing on the wagon stacking the bales. Any input would be helpful. thank you

I bought a NH 68 about 6 years ago from a farm
auction. Paid $400. It's in good condition but
not perfect.

I just paid $200 for a working and a parts baler as a package. the user is in good shape. lots of good knotter parts on the parts one. Just got it so didn't have a chance to tie a bale this year, but seemed to cycle fine empty. I'm in North Dakota, though. 30 HP should be fine. Live power is nicest, but can get by without it. Used my 8N Ford on our 67 2 years ago, that only has 26 hp, but one heck of a governor and NO live power! Be careful if your tractor only weighs about 2500 lbs. this is what your baler will weigh. Best if you can outweigh the baler by half again. Makes things a little less hairy.

That's about what we paid for our 68 several years ago. It's been a good one. Our 32 hp MH50 handles it fine. We do have some hills and we don't normally tow a wagon behind it.

I dunno if your IH has live PTO, but that's nice to have with anybody's baler.

I'Ve got a 68 baler. It works fine now that I have gotten the knotter to work. I pull my baler with a Farmall C. Gotta go slow at high engine RPM but it works fine. If you purchase the 68 and 650 dollars is not out of line if it works good, I would be interested in getting a photo-copy of the owners/operators manual for the 68. I would pay you for your time and expenses,Or, If you could E-mail me the name and a phone number of the dealer who has the baler I might be able to get him to photo-copy it for me. Like others have said, NH is good about manuals. Any dealer should be able to get owner's and service manuals for you for a nominal fee.

Deere and NH are both pretty good about that. I've been impressed with both of their parts support, but it does seem like NH charges more for the same kinds of parts. But better to be able to get them than not.

I bought a 268 (about the same) with a thrower 7-8 years ago for $900, so the price is about right if its in good workung order. Since its a dealer, make him guarantee it to work(tie). Your 30hp should run it fine on level ground not pulling a wagon, and probably on hills/or wagon.
