Need some advice on a plow purchase

Im in the market for a two-bottom plow for my Ford 860. Im planning on working 4 acres with the implement. There are several available in the area. The brands available are: Dearborn, -Ferguson, or International, and Tractor Supply. I have two questions I appreciate your help with.

First, parts availability. Ive searched the Archives and have been following the Implement Alley postings for about a year now. I get the impression that repair/replacement parts may be difficult to come by for the Dearborn or Ferguson plows. Ive not seen much information on the International. Since the Tractor Supply plow is newer, I am assuming parts will be available, but the plow will not be as durable. How difficult will it be to get parts for Dearborn or Ferguson plows?

Second, what should I look for in the way of problems or likely missing parts on the plow? The plows Ive seen dont seem to have too many moving parts. I suspect most problems will be from wear. Seems like the points are the most subject to wear from what Ive read. Any advice on a pre-purchase checks would be greatly appreciated.

Dale,
Seems like you should be able to find a Ford 101 plow. They are all over the place. They are the proper plow for your tractor and parts are readily available from New Holland. You are right wear is the wost problem Point weasr the fastest and easily replaceble. I live east of Saginaw and there are Ford plows all over.

I agree with jhill. 101's are very good plows. The bottoms will trip if you hit a rock or something else. The bottoms reset with either springs or shear pins. For small acreage shear pins are fine. IMO get colters, if possible get 1-arm colters, they catch less trash. 101 should be fairly easy to find. Parts are available at NH dealers, TSC or about any place that sell plow parts. On last thot. You know your soil, but in my area an 860 will pull 3 bottoms. LOL
