A friend told about an implement that was around when he was a kid that dragged around behind a baler and gathered 8 or 10 bales at a time then left them in a group to pick up later. He said I could build one from pipe. If anyone can give me a solid description, photo, sketch, or any knowledge I would appreciate it. Thank you.

Hi Duane, where abouts are you? I'm just north of Quabbin Resivoir. I've got one, a Farmhand. I wouldn't be without one either. I'm in the metal fab business, mostly retired now. I thought about building some of these but figured no demand because of everybody having kickers. I heard nobody made them any more and bought mine to use and also for a pattern.

I couldn't get the email to work. I've uncovered mine. My buncher is next to the road, easy to get to if the snow doesn't get too deep.

Duane, contact R. N. Johnson in Walpole, NH at
603-756-3321. They are a JD dealer who might still
sell bale bunchers. I bought mine there 10 years
ago. They have a local welder build them. I would
not bale hay without one anymore, it saves so
much time and work. I paid $425 for mine and it's
the best money I ever spent for any piece of
equipment. If you don't have any luck, contact me
at this board and I'll get some pics of mine or
you can come and check it out yourself.

I wouldn't bet on building one that will work decent. You can however buy a bale accumulator either new or used. Only a couple names are now made and both work well. New ones are around 10 thousand and used are from 1200 up depending on the condition. 1200 won't get you much. There are used ones available at dealers and farm auctions. Good luck.

We bought a Farmhand accumulator and fork on auction for 2500. Actually a local dealer went to the auction across the state and brought this thing home for us. He said there were a half a dozen or so accummulators on that auction(consignment) and the one he bought was the only one with thw pump required to make it work. When I first seen it I about!@#$, it didn't look like much. But I took it home and hooked everything up and had to do a little welding on the thing but it actually worked and 20000 bales later it's still hanging in there! Since then I've built another grapple which they're asking 2500 for or more. I had a local welding shop cut the forks for the grapple to buy new ones cost 1600. Is'nt that crazy?! I built it for less than 1000. I've heard about the drag type machines, I don't know how bales will take being dragged around. Look around there's still some bargains out there. Good luck I hope you find one the things really work good.
