JD 347 square baler

I have a chance to buy one of these. Was wondering if they are a good baler or should I stick with the New Hollands. The dealer is asking $4500 for this machine says it is refurbished but I"m not sure what he done to it. I was also wondering if they are a good reliable baler. I have a NH 275 but would like something with a little more capacity.

I've got a 315 N.H. just love it, bale 10000 a year with very little problems, we do maintenance as usual, it's just been so very dependable. The neighbor dairy runs N.H., a 570, they bale 20000 plus, no complaints from them. My father-in-law runs a 347 his bales are smaller than mine in width and heighth, he complains my bales are too heavy to suit him although they're the same length as his bales are. Don't run and buy green there's alot of N.H. models out there that perform great. Not to drag down j.d., when I was in school Dad had a 336 J.D. we had wonderful service from it in fact he thought I was nuts for buying a N.H. But after baling with it he thought I done good buying it although he still thinks my bales are too BIG! Good luck.

You would be better off with a New Holland but I have two 348 baler that i need to sell I am in Maryland

I would definitely go for it. I ran a 327 Jd for years was excellent machine.wanted higher capacity ended up getting a New Holland 570. Thats the bigggest mistake I have made in my haying operation. Looking for green paint to get rid of the red as soon as possible. Wanting 348

I bought our 337(same baler-less strokes) new in '84. Only trouble in 20yrs was the oak bearing in the auger had to be replaced. This past fall it had its first green light done for under $1000. I bale approx 6000 sq/yr.

We went from a NH to a JD 347. They are just as good as the NH if not better and they are very reliable. We currently have a 348 now.

You will love a JD 347, had two of them, makes a much better bale than a NH, very reliable, the wide pick-up is great also.
If you really want something neat add a hydraulic bale tension and a hydraulic pick-up, what's great on the hydraulic bale tension is that when you shut the baler off it lets the tension off the bale chamber so if you shear a pin it starts up real easy after replacing the pin or want to pull the last bale out.
They are also very quiet running when adjusted up right, no feed rack running back and forth just an auger turning, very easy on tender hay.
