I just purchased a NH 650 round baler with net wrap. I think it is about a 92/93 model and has fairly low usage - approx. 2500 bales. I plan to use a MF 261 which is supposed to have 55 PTO HP. I know this is probably borderline but does anyone have any idea how well this tractor will handle the 650? I also have a JD 2240 MFWD but I believe it is only rated at 50HP. My terrain is not very hilly. It will be used mostly for fescue, clover, and alfalfa. Does anyone have any other helpful hints or suggestions about this baler? I"m new to the round baler world so any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks, Mark

NH 650 at full size will make 55hp scream. In fact I dont know if you can or not. At 62hp set on 4x4.5 I do pretty well but that last little bit really stresses the tractor and the baler. I use 86 hp and it does a lot better. Setting is easy, not sure if the procedure is the same for a net wrap as twine wrap but for twine wrap you move 1 bolt to set bale size. You can also look at reducing bale density. Its easy too, just turn 1 dial.
