I am planing to do my own hay this year and I am starting to collect the machinery that I will need. My tractor is about 50 hp and I am looking at a NH 315 square baler comming up at a farm auction. I really know nothing about balers and was hoping that some of you could let me know about this one.

Thanks in advance/Doug

Doug, the 315 was pretty good. It was not one New Holland's best, but I would not be afraid of one that was still in decent shape. As long as you do NOT bale corn stalks (as our farmers here in Lancaster County do) the baler will treat you ok. Steve

Doug, as the proud owner of a 315 I can tell you that it does a fine job for me. My baler doesn't know what a banna bale is and sometimes goes for days without missing a tie. But if you know little about balers get someone to go with you who has some knowledge of them. A good price does not a good baler make. Price should be in the range of 2500-4000 Canadian. If you are able to get a good one you won't be disappointed. I pull mine with 8 bale accumulator attached with a 52hp tractor in 2nd gear in heavyy hay and in 3rd of light. Good luck.....

To Flurette farm: Do you use Sisal or Plastic, and as you know, does it make a difference on the 315 Knotter ?
Thanks
