I have an old JD horse drawn planter and am unable to determine if it is a model 919 or 999, should there be identification any where on the planter. Also I have heard that you can buy replacement fertilizer tubes from Shoup"s, they have several part no."s to chose from, which one is the correct replacement.

I have come up with the fact that the 919 was a drill planter and the 999 was a check row planter and both were made in a lo wheel and hi wheel version and Shoup would have nothing for them, part of my fert tubes are cast iron, and then there was the 9 that was first then the 99 then the 999 that was the last horse planter built into the 50's the 290 was a tractor planter, I do have some manuals but not all and an having trouble determining the model of my planter as there was also a letter designation for all the planters and if there was any marking identify them on the frame it was in paint and rusted off. I also have a 450 that was the first 4 row tractor planter followed by the 490 that I also have followed by the 494 and 494 A that I also have along with 290 planters and grew up with a 246

A friend of mine had the same problem, We also found out there was a 99 inbetween the number 9 & the 999. What is written on your seed boxes?

If it is a Deere it would have the no. 999 the one before was a no. 9 the one after the 999 was a 290.The year the 999 was indroduced was 1911.
