I have searched this site, and read almost all the posts on the NH chain balers but havent found much on the 852 model. A neighbor has one for sale. Nice shape. Good tires and paint. Replaced chains and sprockets 100 bales ago. Has electric tie with a warning box on tractor. He wants $3000 for it. Sounds fair to me. What do you guys think? This is still a spring tension baler, but I dont hear near as much talk about a 852 as compared to say an 850....

I have been using a NH 852 baler for probably 20 years. My baling is for my own use on the ranch and I average 500 to 600 bales per year.

This kind of baler won't put up as pretty or as tight a bale as the newer belt balers, but they do a decent job. Mine has had to have new apron chains a couple of times and the floor chains a couple of times also.

If it has all new chains and sprockets the guy could have spent a couple of thousand if he had the work done by a shop. The parts alone could have cost $1,000.

Around here a baler in just average condition may go for a $1,000 or less because they are getting somewhat old. But if this one is in good shape and you don't plan on custom baling it will do a good job.
