I have found a 5530 baler for $600. I have a 770 John Deere 25 hp tractor and am wondering if this tractor can handle it. I will be baling coastal bermuda grass. This baler has some damage due to a bearing locking up.

I HAVE A CASE 8420,I THINK IT IS THE SAME BASIC BALER,AND I HAVE A KUBOTA 4310GST W/CAB . 38 PTO HP HANDLES THE BALER JUST FINE , 28 HP WILL BE A REAL TEST FOR YOUR TRACTOR. THE BIGGEST PROBLEM IS GOING TO BE HOW WELL YOU CAN HANDLE THE DUST THE BALER KICKS UP,IT IS VERY CLOSE TO THE TRACTOR

My neighbour pulls one with a Massey 135, does OK, makes a small bale, not a lot of hay in them, but he likes it, I think he paid $3000 Cdn. for his.

25 hp? sorry RockinD not a chance. double that horsepower at least, and maybe more going up hills.

Cool and very windy Allan. We don"t get the snow and very cold temps. here like we used to (global warming? or spoken too soon! ) I presume the baler in question is a belt type, not rollers (eg Claas ) I know they take less hp than the roller types. I have seen a MF 148 on a similar baler to the Hesston but I would not want to go any smaller.

no not a joke a nieghbor has it for sale from one of his customers that just bought a bigger one when it broke. It does have belts. I have never ran a round baler before and any advice will be appriecated. I plan to use the hay to feed small groups of horses. By the way they are for sell, may then I would not need the baler

we bought one last spring. hardly been used. we use a john deere 2155 (45hp) and it will work it goin up hill. We baled about 35 semi wet bales (about 280 all together) and it done a pretty good job. It is a nice little baler and i don't think i would trade it for anything. Just be sure to weave a little bit and it will make a nice bale.

We have a 5530 and the manual say 35hp PTO is the minimum. We use it with a 44hp Kubota (M4030) and it works that tractor pretty good going uphill with a nearly full chamber. They are good balers though but hay has to be dry, which it needs to be in any case.
