Did Ford build their own square baler or was it made by another company? Thanks for any help

I worked for Ford in the early 70"s. At that time amost all haying equipment came from New Holland. I believe the balers were made by them.

Jerry D in NC did some research on this. I remember him saying he found out that Long did indeed make Ford balers, but only up until about 1962 (model 150 and 250). When the blue balers came out (530, 540, 532, 542) they were made by someone else, but I cannot remember who. Gehl maybe? Hopefully Jerry will see this and give us the straight story.

Thanks for the info, This one is a model 532. A friend of mine gave it to me. He said it was a real good baler till the springs on the top of the intake plunger broke. It has been parked outside for about two years with nothing over the knotters. Anyone know the best way to clean the rust off of the knotters. Thanks David

My 542 was about the same situation only worse. It had sat uncovered for at least 5 years that I know of. It was finally given to me and after replacing the plunger rollers and crank bearing I was ready to try it. Couldn't get the knotters to tie reliably. Jerry D finally told me to cycle the knotters with twine installed at least 20 or 30 times to clean them up. It worked. I put about 5 bales of straw through the baler over and over by pulling it out the back and shoving it back in the front while the baler sat there working. I did have a minor twine finger adjustment to do also, but after that it worked real well. You might want to consider joining our loose affiliation of Ford baler owners. There are no dues and I've received tons of help from these guys.

I belive the model 530 was built by long tractor co. the 530/532 were in production from mid 1960s till ford quit offering balers in mid to late 70s. I think allis balers of this era were also built by long

Allis built their own balers. I"m pretty sure Ford sold balers right up until the New Holland join-up in 1986. New Idea was involved with the balers somewhere along the line. Jerry D in NC can tell us for sure. New Idea also built the late IH balers (435,445). Gehl built the late MF balers. Not sure if they made any Fords or not.
