If there are hobby farmers in your area, then the sky's the limit. If you want cheap, go for a complete fixer-upper, and if you go that route, try to stick with more common brands in your area. It will make it easier to find parts in scrap yards.

Jim,
I was hoping you were closer. I just got back from a 900 mile round trip to Pennsylvania to pick up a corn sheller and hammer mill I found on here.

The distance won't stop me from coming up to see/buy it, but it sure won't be this month! Once the weather breaks (mid to end of April) I would love to come up. Bring my trailer behind the motorhome and make it more than a 1 day trip. I opened up my email address so you can contact me...please let me know if this timeframe will work.

A year ago I sold a JD ground driven spreader for $100. It had been stored inside, had a new apron, but needed one new side board. This is in NESD.

Just be happy you don't live in an Amish area where they all use ground drive spreaders. I sold an old New Idea to one guy for $900 and I KEPT the wheels and tires!

I live in Amish country, and was just talking to a buddy who is looking for a spreader. A dealer wants $1900 for a N.I ground drive, and $1400 for a pto drive with a hole in the floor. He finally found an old IH for $1100....
