I HAVE A 1967 PT 10, I'M NEW TO HAYBINES IS THERE MANUALS ON HOW TO SET UP OR YOUR ADVICE? SHOULD THIS HAVE A SINGLE OR DOUBLE ACTING CYC TO LIFT? SEAMS TO ME THAT THE HEAD WOULD FLOAT BETTER WITH SINGLE? HAS DOUBLE NOW AND NEEDS REPLACED? I WILL BE RUNNING WITH A 900 FORD AND I AM IN PROSCESS OF INSTALLING REMOTE HYD TO TRACTOR ON BUDGET LOOKING FOR ADPTER-PLATE P/N? THANK YOU AND LOOKING TO HEAR YOUR INPUT.

Which PT10 do you have? is the cyl on the top or the bottom,, I have had both types,, the one with cyl on top is better,,the one I had with the cyl on the bottom was always causing problems,, pulled hard and I was always having to deal with the "rubber band" belt up above the rollers..not to mention that the mount for the cylinder would drag hay with it,I use a Case 555 now,, same as the top cyl type PT10...,,,Jim

where are you located im in vermont and have a pt 10 good parts machine or with very little work be good mower again also have manual for it

I"ve used both types of cyls. and it works the
same with either type. The operator"s manual is
form 7784374 and covers the PT-7 and PT-10. A
good Hesston dealer will make you a copy from
their shop copy if one is no longer available
from the parts department. You might have to ask
more then one dealer for help. You could also put
an ad in the classifieds on this site.

On my PT-10, the front/lower cylinder pin is in a plate that is free to slide back when the cylinder closes. I used it for years with a double acting cylinder, but when I got tired of keeping up with two hoses, I change to a single acting cylinder. It works the same either way, it floats with either cylinder. It might be a bit slower to drop with the single acting cylinder but that didn't seem to me to be a problem so long as I held the valve in the drop position long enough.

Be sure the tractor works well with a single acting cylinder by not objecting when lowering without a place for oil under pressure to flow. Some Ford adapter plates have a switch provision for handling a single acting cylinder.

I run plow, disk, field cultivator, planter (next year), and PT-10 with a single acting cylinder. Saves having to reconnect the down hose when it gets tugged out from not having pressure in it on a sharp corner. All these implements float the cylinder so a double acting cylinder is of no benefit at all.

the head should float independant of the cylinder but you can take one hose off if you want. just use a plug with a small hole drilled in it so it can vent. watch on ebay you can find manuals there.
