14T Baler Rim Question

I have two 14T balers, one is working and the other is for parts. The working baler is a '62 and the parts is a '58 year model. Aside from the knotters, they outwardly appear to be identical.

But today I went about putting the best of the spindles and rims on my working baler and found this:

1. The pick-up side of the balers, the spindles on the '58 are the same diameter as the fly-wheel side, though both are only 4 bolt holes. Is this original? I thought I'd put the heavier spindles on the working baler.

2. The rims for the '58 baler, both sides, are about 1/2" wider than the '62. The rims off the '59 have some numbers factory painted on them. The pick-up side has JD-1384 and the fly-wheel side has JD-689-F, thought the 9-F are hardly readable so those may be wrong. The '62 baler's rims have no markings on them and the pick-up side had what appeared to be the original tire, a Goodrich 5.00 x 15. BTW, of the two sets of rims, the '62 is in the best shape. The '58 rims look like they have been run flat for a few years! Anyone else found different rim sizes on 14T balers?

3. Anyone retrofitted their tubed tires with tubless?

Thanks in advance,
Bill

I changed the tires on my MF-12 for more floatation in muddy ground (back up of a mutual field tile). I could have changed the rims for wider rims too.

In farm stuff I prefer to put tubes in tubeless tires. They aren't going to flex enough to heat, and I think they hold air better. When the farm has dozens of tires, airing the leaky tubeless tires gets to be annoying. And often the older rims weren't made to be air tight at the weld, so they do leak excessively without a tube.

Most of my original tires are replaced with tubeless. If the rims are good and not battered up. Buff the bead good so no rust and get a good seal.

My 58 14T has the 4 hole on the windrow side and the 6 hole on the flywheel side. I know it is a 58 as I rember when my dad bought it in late 58 hay season. My cousin has a 55 model and it has the same size wheels on both sides, and it is original. He bought it new and later in the 60's bought a 34T with a thrower, and kept the 14 T "just in case". The 24T gave way to a round baler and 14T still does small jobs.

The 2 I have have a 4 bolt one on the right side as your looking at it from the back and a 6 bolt rim on the left side.
