I own a model 24 picker that my father used up to the mid 70,s He use to open all the neighbors feilds up for them for years. I recall as a kid about 2-3 neighbors coming over and helping take the model 31 loader off and mounting the picker each fall untill one of those neigbors went way out of his way to find a h tractor for dad cheap with the promise to keep it mounted full time. ( I was told that it should of been mounted on a m not a h due to weight) Dad said it was a good picker in its day but they only picked in the mornings due to it beening only a snapper with no husking bed.I havent had it mounted since about 1978 and now wish I had pictures of it. We owned 2 of the Model 24s, they picked kind of dirty, didn"t take off much shucks, as the other guy said, no husking bed. We only had it mounted on a M, as a Farmall H never had the power or weight to go up the hills we had by itself let alone being burdened with a picker and full wagon. I last used mine in 75, was cut up a couple of years later. Even then it was an antique, neighbors were already switching from their 2MH pickers to combines. I posted a pic of it in the tractor photos here, mounted. I still have the long wrenches to mount the front part. John in Nebraska

You dont see that model around to often. From what I have been told the #24 picker was not a very good picker. Sounds like it was a marginal unit before commercial fertilizer came into play in the 50's and once population increased they virtually didnt work at all. I bet most were cut up decades ago. If you can find one it would be a nice addition to your collection! Good luck.

Farms are still consolidating, and there are still 70 year old fellows selling out the old machine sheds. So yes, there is still machinery to collect.

However, in a decade, maybe 2, that sort of thing will have run it's course. The folks 50 years old started farming in the '70s, when the machinery was getting bigger. When it is their turn to sell out 20 years from now, will be very little 'good old small' stuff left to buy. Most will be made into Toyota's or already collected by then.
