I was given a #34 John Deere Spreader that needs some work. The previous owner was going to put a new floor in and had completely removed the old floor and bolts.

What size are the floor boards? I'm also looking for an operators manual. If anyone has one for sale please let me know.

Terry, I measured those Floor boards this afternoon. They are T & G pine or douglas fur, 5 1/4 wide and 3/4 thick. Hope this helps Rich

Rich, thanks for the information. I wasn't expecting the T&G part. I wonder what the chances of finding "treated" T&G would be? THanks again,
Terry,

I bought an old JD spreader a couple of years ago and relaced the floor with a sheet of 1/2" plywood. Used it every day with no problems.

The rivets that are ramaining suggest that the floor was about 3/4" thick. That just seems a little light for the floor of a spreader so I thought I would check with someone who owned one. I was planning on using 1x6" unless someone suggests another size.

Any help is appreciated. Terry,

3/4" is standard on most spreaders and that treated 1 x 6 that you would go to the lumber yard to buy is 3/4" thick x 5 1/2" wide unless you would buy a deck board that is a full 1" thick. With the deck board you might have to taper the front end of the boards so the chain would not catch on them but otherwise should work

I've got an extra operators manual, email me for more info.

As to the floor boards, you might want to look at a parts book for the spreader. I know for the New Idea spreader that I'm working on, the boards are tapered somewhat. Fortunately the board measurements are given in the parts book; don't know if Deere was that helpful as well.
