I am looking at to get a newer used baler this winter. The two I like in the JD balers are a 337 or 338. The NH is the 565 or 575. I have great dealer support from both. Which is the best of the newer balers?

We have three 575s.they are hard to beat! if you buy a 575 make sure it has a chamber extention on it to make good solid straw and grass bales.A neighbor has 2 575s and 2 348s,he likes the JDs better, his son prefers the NHs.Two years ago they traded JDs for hesstons, two weeks later traded the hesstons for JDs! It depends on good dealer support,a buddy has two 348s and claims there is none better!

There are no real bad balers just some that take some skill in operating. A NH baler likes BIG windrows, gotta keep a lot of hay coming at em. The JD's are a fair baler but not the quality of a NH.

Oh yeah, I had to get in on this one. I have a 570 baler and several other old model NH balers and I will put it up beside any JD baler made. There is a lot of JD balers around here because we have more JD dealers and they call me to work on those JD balers and sometimes I will let them borrow my 570 if I know they will take care of it and everyone of them have asked to buy it. They all say that it will put up a better bale and faster than their JD balers when their baler is having a good day. And the older NH balers making banana bales, there is a cure for that and NH will not tell you about it, they won't you to buy a new one. I have fixed several of them and carried them to the field and shoveled hay into them trying to tear them up and they would always make a good bale. I am not trying to start a color war. But on the other hand if you won't the best round baler go with the green, that is why I always tell them that square is red and round is green hands down. HTH

We had a JD 347 and now a 348. Before the 347 we had two NH balers. They would make banana shaped bales consistently. We even had the factory personnel and reps out to look at them and they couldn"t get work either. They worked good in alfalfa but in straw and grass hay, they didn"t work to well. If you are not using a bale wagon, then the NH will be fine but if you are using a balew wagon the JD would be the better bale. I hauled a lot of bales with our NH bale wagon and can always tell which ones came from a NH baler because they don"t stack near as good as the JD bales.

I've got a NH 565 and if I were to buy another NH baler it would be a 570 or 570. The 565 is a light weight economy baler. My biggest complaint is it only has a 4 bar pickup and doesn't pickup and feed hay well. It also has the old fork type feeder where the 2 larger ones use the rotary feeder. Bale length and to a lesser extent density is largely determined by how fast you are feeding hay into it. This is a problem with my wife baling in heavy straw. She almost jams it up and makes a huge bale then she hits the clutch and makes a tiny bale. My next baler will be a JD because the local dealer support is so much better. Question for Steve from NH. Can I install the pickup spiders from a 570 in my 565 to add a 5th bar? The local dealer doesn't know and won't take time to look up the part numbers to find out.

If I understand you right the rotary feeder is superior on maintaining bale length. If I were to use a NH bale wagon a rotary feeder would be the only way to go?

LD70; If I were going to use a New Holland stackwagon I would not use a New Holland baler from what I have been learning. Had a excellent Deere machine and needed more capacity and found a 570 New Holland was bought new and owner died, was never to the field. I bought that unit and has been the biggest mistake I ever made for balers. I am definitely going back to Deere. The rotary feed does not make more uniform bales.

The rotary feed balers would be much better with a bale wagon but I pick up bales from my 565 with a NH 1002 wagon so it can be done. Key is make tight dense bales in the length recommended for the wagon. Also helps to pick up bales by running in the same direction that they were baled. With a long bale I might have to reposition it by hand or match it up with a short bale before flipping it up to the last table.

5 bar pickup in reply to David in MD, 12-28-2004 06:13:52
Someone asked that question a while back and I spent some time figuring it out due to curiosity. If you buy parts within the serial number range of your 565 from a 570 pickup, you can add the fifth bar. You will need an addioional bar and cam follower and the spiders. May as well sacrifice the sealed bearings the center shaft rides on.

Thanks but no thanks. Due to financial constraints I'm stuck with my 565 for a while but my next baler will definitely be green.

The New Holland 575 stands alone. It has no equal. The 348 Deere is closer to New Holland's 570. I'm not a big fan of the 570, but I do like the 565 and the 575. Steve

Why is the 565 and 575 better than a 570?

Could you explain your differing opinions of the 570 and 575?

Put a Hesston 4590 centerline in the field next to the 575 and it will have found its match.

Is it similar to a 7205 New Idea? Wasn't sure about that centerline thing. It would seem that the hay gets to the bale chamber quicker. Does it make consistant length bales? I seen one listed a while back and didn't really look into it to much.

They make very consistant bales, both size and density wise. Takes some getting used to straddling the windrow. I have a Hesston 4550, the little one, which capacity-wise is better than a 328 Deere. The 4570 will do better than a 338, and the 4590, like a NH 575, will eat a 348.

Steve from New Holland; You talk about not liking the 570 but you do the 575? Been doing research and as I have a 570 now (will agree it is a Joke)that it is same as 575 just has wider pickup why is it better then

The 337 and/or 338 will not begin to compare to a 575. The 348 is about the same as a 575. Both are very good balers.

I think in real world, it comes down to the better dealer, better condition machine, or the color you like better on those models.
