first of all i hope everyone had a good Christmas.i sure did. the question i have, has anyone ever had the land plow conversion for either one of these plows. i know finding one of these is going to be a nightmare. so my other option is to build one. but was curious how they worked, if they did at all?

as always thanks in advance! max

Max: Are you talking, "on land hitch", as I'm having a bit of a struggle deciding yes or no on that? If that is the case, don't think it will work unless you get tractor wheel tread around 40". I don't think a Cub or SA will pull it.

That is what I thought he was talking about..... .....Would probably work with a BIG tractor to overcome the draft problems, but my question is WHY? I always thought they work good in the furrow.

TP: In my opinion, on land hitch was only ever designed for plowing with duals, thus from a line of draft point of view, it takes 8 bottoms or more. You don't see many of them around these parts anymore. They found in this heavy clay, best traction came from the wheel in the furrow. What your seeing is 4x4 tractors pulling 6 or 7 by 16"

Hello Hugh, according to my manual on the 550-560. IH made a hitch to convert this plow to a land plow. it assentially moved the hitch over. pretty simple.
i thought i would play around with this. never plowed with a land plow, so i thought i would give it a try! i have an extra 550 to do this with. again i'm just playing and they said i couldn't do it. so i've got to do it! again as always thanks, i love the imput!

Why would you want to plow on land with such a small plow? We had a 540 4-14 and walked right along with a 400 or 706D.

i know my 706 will handle that but what i'm doing is for the fun of it. besides i'm wanting to make it a 5 bottom land plow. and i know they say a 706 won't pull a 5 bottom plow. but when i'm done it will! like i said what i'm doing is for the enjoyment. i just hobby farm.

Don't know what kind of ground you have but where I am at a 706 with even a D282 will pull 5-16's with no trouble..... ..... Heck, my neighbors pulled 5-16's with two 706 gassers they had.

Still though, why would you want an on-land plow for anything under 6..... ..... .I even prefer 6 in the furrow.
