dump rake

we have an old john deere dump rake in the field and the wife wants to paint it back to the orginal color scheme. And I would like to put some kind of date on the old thing....the rake not the wife. The only thing I can find are casting numbers on different parts. All the casting numbers start with 'K' 3 digits and end with 'H'. The 3 digit number are 369 -370 -371 and a couple more I didn't write down....any help with the paint scheme and age ?

If it is a JD rake it of course should be painted green & yellow. (yellow wheels rest green) as far as the model of rake if you send a photo of it and any numbers you can find on it to the Green Magazine's " Mr. Thinker" column they will more than likely give you the model and the years that model was produced by Deere.

Not that simple, Gil. Prior to WWII, some Deere equipment had red parts, too.

It might be kind of tough to come up with the correct color paint scheme, but the fellows on these boards are pretty resourceful and may come up with the answer.

I started to suggest looking at old magazines for ads of the era, but expect most would have been in black and white.

If it were me I would just paint it as I thought looked best for now, then repaint if and when the original scheme comes to light.

That will be a hard one because dump rakes were used from before 1900 up untill the 1950's. You will have to dig to find out that date but in the information age of today someone will know.
