I"ve recently found a 227 corn picker came off of a 60. Its been shedded for a long time and in good condition. What all John Deere tractors will it fit? I"ve got a 1952 B and G, but didn"t know if it would fit them. It will just be used for showing. Also, what would be a good price to give for one? Thanks.

The 60 brackets will fit only a 60 and there was never any mounts made for a B as the picker is too heavy and the frame of a G is too wide to fit but you could when new but not now buy brackets to fit not only JD but IHC, AC, Oliver, Ford, MH, MM, Cockshut but they had to be model specsific but the later 227 and 237 pickers had a universal mounting frame and the 226 precided the 227 and fit the A & B tractors. Had a 226 on 49 B for part of season, enough power but boiled all the time, later had a 227 on Late A, used for several years, parts for any are about non existant but I still have the books for both pickers, both went to junk

Buy a few parts for my picker every year and have never had a part I couldnt get, many are still available from deere. If not available from deere there is a ton of that stuff sitting in old dealerships and in those excess parts wharehouses. Just picked up some parts to fix a lower snapping roll thrust bearing and the grease bank the other day.

Not sure on the value. Have a 227 in the shed myself. Last time used was back in the very early 70's. Not because of breakdown, just moved up to a 715 combine then.

Always had it on the 60. I would say any "mid framed" 2 cyl would slip in and work just fine but that's just my guess.

Anyone around so MN interested give me a jingle.

I don't know what difference there is between a #226 and a # 227, but we used a #226 for 20 years on our late "B" and it pulled loaded wagons, AND stuck tractors with loaded wagons out of the field--all at the same time...!! Well, we did break several axles, but what would ya expect from having those wheels set out so far..!!! Really, we DID have plenty of power...Only way to tell if it is really working hard is to have a straight pipe on it, and then you can't hear the exhaust very well...!!

I dont know much about a 226. In all the books about 227's it just never shows anything about mounting it on a B. This fall had the 70 and 227 in belly deep mud and had to cut the wagon loose a couple times to get out. Worked the poor ole tractor pretty hard but I should never underestimate the power of the mighty B. I notice that in some deere advertising you will occasionaly see a late B powering a 12-a pto combine. I wonder how well that worked? My late styled B is used all the time, a real joy to run!

I don't know about a 12A combine, but our "B"s ran the AC 60 just fine..ya got real good a slipping gears...!! I always figured our "B"s would do about anything a late "A" would do... Sometimes a 2-14" pull type plow was Plenty in second gear, and other times you could even get it up into 4th....7" deep. We ran the He!! out of them..never ran any shutters..they got warm when they were worked hard..!! A JD disc, cultipacker and harrow in 3rd gear is the "perfect load"...not pull it down at all.. I don't think the folks hardly ever changed throttle position when plowing..always at 7/8 throttle...even at the ends of the field..!! The B in the 226 opened all the neighbor's corn fields, and did a lot of custom work, too.. Same with the AC combine...Dad's, and his dad's had our last name written in the dust on the back..#1 and #2...!! We didn't have any trouble with the B's, after the mufflers rusted off..never burnt a valve after that..before, one was always in the JD shop...!! I still have the Coop loader on the one B..it cleaned barns all over around here..It cleans my drive..we had 6" of snow today..expect more tomorrow, and it will get to work that, too..!! I have a 520 I got to give the B a rest, but it won't do any more work than the B..about exactly the same power.(oh-did I mention that this B has a +.180 bore??)...done in 1960 and still good.. The other B has never had the head off and is still smoke-free..!

With the right sub frame and mounting brackets a 227 picker will fit most two cylinders and many new generation tractors. There are 2 exceptions. B's and G's. Go figure. The 227 was never designed to be put on either one but I am sure it could be done. The B would have been under powered to really run it and as I understand it the G just doesnt fit. I have a 227 on a 70 gas and play with it ever fall. I tried to put it on a 60 put was going to take alot off adapting and just left it on the 70. If you have any questions just ask. Good luck!
