I believe I have purchached a Model 290 pull type w/ Hyd cylinder. I have not found any numbers on it so I can identify it. It is in good shape, however it's missing the fertilizer cans. I need to date it so I can purchase a book, order parts, and restore it. This model has spoke rims, steel packing wheels, and 2 triangle type boxes on the very rear with wing nut bolts. Can any one help?

I don't remember a 290 having a hydraulic cylinder. If the hydraulic part is a Deere add on then I would say you have a very rare planter. They all use a chain driven clutch.Could the two triangular shaped boxes be Gandy herbicide units.Do they set up kind of high with tubes going down in front of or to the reat of the press wheels?I started farming with a 290 a LONG time ago.

The Hyd. Cylinder in a Jonh Deere. It has a set screw on the cylinder arm that can be set to set it at the right depth by pushing a button. The Triangles may have had tube going to the wheels. The fertilizer cans are missing and the down tubes also. I need row markers, Fert. Cans and misc. parts. It is in my garage now and as soon as it's warmer I'll strip, power wash paint, and lube it. All so I can plant corn so the deer can eat it.. Thanks for the help
