Good friend with a hay farm is considering going to a bale band-it. Ease of trucking where the market wants small bales. Any one with experience with one? Any coments apreciated.

Where is the market for all the square bales that they have trucked in. We have a lot of good horse quality bermuda hay in square bales here.

Here is a used one in reply to Coloken, 12-12-2004 12:28:11
Looks like they are awful pricy for bunching up square bales. Think I will stick with my kicker wagons for now.... Neat idea though.

Was couple units in my area and i looked into them also. Both of them sold them, were very slow and had lots of problems. I think the one fellow may still have his as they have no resale value. We are all running accumulator setups instead. I will be banding bundles next season on experimental basis along with building hay dryer trailer/shed. Happy Holidays everyone

The neighbor uses one. He puts up about 50,000 squares a year and so far he really likes it. They cost about $50,000 though so you really have to have the hay to make it pay.

Saw one listed recently. Slightly used for 45K. Hope he plans on selling a lot of hay...

I worked for a farm that had just bought a band-it, 2 years ago. I used the machine behind a 348 JD baler. We raked two 16 foot windrows toghether, and had to go real slow. The big problem was if the bales were to loose, or tolong or short. If you made the "perfect" bale it was a nice running machine. I could load a semi with 24 bundles-504 bales in 15-20 minuets. They also worked good to put in the bed of pickups. Watch where you grab them at though!
