346 or 347? Maybe an older model? I do 2-3000 bales a year and need a baler upgrade from my IH 37. Not opposed to other makes I just have opportunity on the JD's.
Thanks

2-3,000 bales per year isn't a lot of hay, but just enough where you would want to have a reliable baler. I would say a good 24T John Deere baler would fit the ticket and could be had for under $1,000 in most areas. A good one with a hydraulic thrower might run a little over $1,000. They are not the fastest baler, but with only 2-3,000 bales to do, they will get the job done. They have a much slower plunger speed and smaller pickup capacity than the newer JD balers like the 336, 327, 328, etc. However, you will take a fairly substantial jump in price to buy a good newer baler. If money isn't that much of an object and you need to get done quicker, I would go with a 336 or newer.

I've got a 336 now, and it's a heck of a fine baler. Wouldn't trade it for a dozen others. Very consistant. I run a Steffens accumulator behind it. They demand consistant size bales. It works like a charm.

I've never ran across a bad design of Deere baler. The best on the market as far as I'm concerned. John

I'll second that. Too bad the bale counter on my trusty 14T isn't cumulative.|:(| I'm guessing well up in the six figures!|:D|

I had a JD 327 and loved tha unit, wish I still had it. I wnet shopping for a larger unit due to the large windrows out of 30ft combines. I ended up with a New Holland 570 late one. Still had paint in chamber. I know why now, when I got it the feeder forks were out of time and I am still trying to get it to bale uniform bales. This is a much larger baler than my 327 was but I COULD DO MORE WITH IT THAN I CAN THIS UNIT SO FAR. I am definitely looking to go back to DEERE BEFOR NEXT SEASON. 348 UNIT WILL BE AFTER,or whatever the latest model is. Anybody want a very nice 570 (1999)with very low use. As long as you don't use it it is niceJust don't plan on baling more than 200 a day. My suggestion to you is stay with the Deere units. They will also run the poly twine with no trouble

Where are you located and what do you want for your 570?

Ryan I have 18 months to figure it out.

I have a JD 346W that has been a good baler though I don't bale many small bales anymore. I did find it ticklish to adjust it to work well in straw. The straw is springy and bulges back into the chamber enough that sometimes the wire would be pushed back enough that the twister hooks would miss picking it up. If I got another baler it would be set up for plastic twine. the 347 should be good with the40 ejector. Maybe you drop. NH is good too and they have a license built Deere ejector available.
A guy at work has a Case IH that picks up directly behind the tractor and he hates it. Says it kills his neck, turning back to keep an eye on it.

Put plungerhead extensions on your 346. Look like pieces of angle iron. Bolt to face of the plungerhead. Requires 4 of them. Will fix your twister misses.
