Hi all. Just picked up a mod. 41 mower for $325 at an auction. Hope I didn't get hurt, thinking I didn't. I read a post on here from summer about a guy (Lee?) who said he'd put a cylinder on his to lift the bar. I need to fix the lift on mine and wondered if anyone else has done this and if so, how? I could probably figure it out, but would like advice if someone else has any. Thanks.

I have been working at adding a cylinder to my MF 41 mower this fall. I have the cylinder lifting the bar ok but you have to move the control very easy or it wants to lift it real fast. Also wants to put it down very fast if not careful.

Plumb a hydraulic needle valve in the hose to the lift port on the cylinder. Use that to set the flow rate. There are such valves available from Northern Tool, but some have a check valve so they flow freely in one direction. You want the valve restriction in both directions.

Massey Ferguson #41 Dyna-Balance sickel bar mower. Made for MF by Vermeer during the 70's. Good mower. Never saw one with a cylinder though. I've owned a couple, and can't see where one would be of much benifit. Three point hitch would raise it enough, I'd think. John
