I paid $175 for one (about a year and a half ago). I don't use it real often, but it works great, when I do. One bearing housing is busted, so it's not mounted good on that end of that gang, but it still turns and works fine.

I'd check the 3-point frame for sturdiness and make sure that all the disks are there and in decent shape (along with, of course, the bearings that everyone else has mentioned).

The ones like Big-R sell for 650 bring 450 to 500 here at auction. For the "gentlmen" farmers. I bought a busted one for 180 and then bought 160 worth of parts, looks like new now. An Old horse drawn 8 footer that was still usable brought 350. Colorado plains have windbreak trees and every farmer wants a small one to cultivate them. Real farmer use 24 to 32 foot ones.

REASONABLE? That's downright CHEAP! I would expect to pay $300 to $500 for a GOOD one. (used)

Check the bearings to see if they are acceptable. You can get away with a little slop, provided you're not planning on doing a lot of ground with it. The disc's need to be intact, and of decent size. They will wear down to nothing. Make sure the gang bolts (long threaded rod that forms the axle) is tight. Also, is this a heavy enough disc to get it in the ground? I have one I'm trying to sell now that isn't. It will barely go into the ground in fresh plowed soil, muchless in sod ground.

Bottom line; For $150, you can't expect much. But if it will do the job, go for it! John
