I bought a tractor that has a 3-point box blade with teeth that extend down about 3" on the front. Would this be used smoothing up land after clearing trees/digging rocks? Would it be any better/faster than the small dozer I have? What do you owners use them for? TIA

I paid $1800 for a heavy one to smooth up stump holes and spots in a rough pasture after rough dozer work. It has retractable scarifers. Used it about an hour, broke my thumb, broke a scarifier and lost a tooth off the scarifier. If you have retractable scarifiers, stay away from the handle that controls it. It is a killer. Use the rope attached to the handle. A strong tractor will break the scarifiers if it catches on roots/rocks. It is my belief that the scarifiers on mine (dirtdog brand) are not equal to the quality of the rest of the boxblade. I took the scarifier that broke back to the dealer and they gave me one that is slightly different. I suspect it is equally as sorry. If anyone knows where to get REAL scarifiers,I would like to have that info.

These retract by loosening a 3/4" bolt, swinging the tooth up and retightening.

I have a Woods box scraper with hydraulic ripper teeth. I have broke a couple of them so far. They are the heaviest I've seen on any brand. They just break from time to time. If they didn't, something else would be the weak link. My guess is, you'd bend the box itself.

At this point, I've resorted to using CHEAPER teeth. They don't seem to break any more frequently, but I'm not out as much when they do. I use King Kutter teeth from TSC. I had to do some grinding to modify them to fit the Woods box. (Nothing drastic)

All this aside, a box scraper is about as handy to have as ANY 3 point impliment made. John

Set them deep, and you'll get the sensation of a Navy jet during a carrier landing. STOP! If you hit ANYTHING, it'll throw you over the steering wheel.

Take small bites. John

Hi Bernie,

Those teeth should be adjustable. You can set them deep to tear or lift them out of the way to smooth. As far as using the box blade, they are about the handiest tool you'll find for the tractor. Use it for everything from grading your drive to smoothing your yard. The most important thing to remember, however, is take shallow bites. I've even heard of guys using them to dig small ponds. It works if you have the time and patience.

Dozers are great, but the box blade will allow you to "finish" the job.

Depending on the size and brand/quality $300 on the low end and several thousand on the high end.

Hey there. I bought one new in Oct. at Rural King for $285 on sale. It's a 6' unit and does great behind my compact diesel.
