NH baler?

Did NH ever make an old pto baler with a cross auger feeding the plunger? I am not familiar with that, but I sure don't know everything. ;)

Has twine box low out behind the auger/ pickup, long chain drive between the plunger & pickup driving the knotters, Steel wheel for pickup support. Half-moon tinwork covering the plunger arm. Generally a low-looking baler. Very old. Covered up, & too rusty to identify much else - hint of red, but too far gone to tell the flavor.

how were these compared to a j.d.14T? i spent a lot of time replacing shear pins when baling got tough on the 14t or we were baling behind a 13 ' combine putting up straw.

As one can tell, I have no direct experience with that model.... ;) I'm told anything NH that is newer is a pretty good machine, the 66 with the wad board is older & slower....

The 68 through 271 is probably comparable to the 14T / 24T. Probably pick your favorite color, more than a real big difference. For what it's worth, there are a lot more NH balers of these ages around me than JD balers.

My 270 is in the lower capacity catagory, but it has baled 10s of thousands of bales with very little trouble over the years, it has been on the farm about as long as I have. I typically rake 18-21 feet of alfalfa, or 2-3 10' straw swaths together & bale in a slow gear. Works well for me.

Thought they used a wad board, which I've never really grasped, not an auger. The auger is what threw me.

I have a NH 270.

Sounds like a NH 66 . I baled 600 bales with mine this past summer . Then I painted.

Sounds like the NH 66. Mine has a Wisconsin engine on it, but they made them in PTO drive as well.
