looking at using my grandfathers 326 next year looks good but would like others inputs. I seen the tag on the back said 326 but could not make out a year. also it has a 8 roll husking be, is 12 roll alot better or is it not alot of difference. i need to know the pros and cons about this model is this model good or was there alot better models? would like to know everyones opinon. thanks wade

Wade. If you post the Model# and the Lot# from the tag that is in the front near the PTO and shear pin assy. I can tell you the year of mfg. The Lot# is the key to the year.HTH

326 is the husking bed model. 327 would be the 12-roll bed. What gathering unit is it on? 324 would be 2-row wide, 325 would be 2-row narrow. These were the Superpickers that closed out production at New Idea in the early "80s. If your corn goes above 150 bu. you"ll have to slow your ground speed with the 8-roll bed. 12-roll handles heavier yield at higher speeds, and does better cleaning of average yielding but trashy corn. The only offering from New Idea better than this picker would be a late-model Uni-System husker with a JD corn head on the front.

Tim would you post the different 2 row models and the number of husking rolls? and if they are wide or narrow. We are looking for a 2 row narrow

For narrow rows and ear corn, I suggest a 325 gathering unit with a 327 12-roll bed on it.

New Idea produced two models of two-row pull-type gathering units in the second-generation Superpickers. The 324 was for 36 to 42 inch rows. The 325 was for 28 to 34 inch rows. The gathering units and processing units were equipped with quick-attach prongs and latches, plus jack stands, that allowed you to change what processing unit was on the gathering unit. Available processing units were the 326 8-roll husking bed, the 327 12-roll husking bed, the 329 cage sheller, and the 318 grinder. A farmer a few miles up the road had a 324 gathering unit, and he had both the 329 sheller and the 327 husking bed, and would start corn with the husking unit until he filled the cribs, then switch to the sheller for whatever was still in the field.

can you change the husking unit out for a 12 roll?? i will look at it better tomarrow. it is two row but think it must be the wider row as it was used on dry land corn..... . but thats only my guess.
