I have a photo of a JD spike harrow I recently purchased on the Help Identify page of this site. Can anyone out there tell me more about this item, or where I can find more information and parts.
Thank you all in advance for your help.
Jim

If you are talking about the harrow sections that were popular back in the 60's pullesd by the drag bar. I have some sections wanting to get rid of if that would help you. they are usable units. Asking $12.00 section

Iowa, eh? A little too far to drive and too expensive to ship.

I wish your picture was bigger. I have allot of old John Deere books and brochures, and i have my grandpas IH spike harrow he bought new in the 1950s. Your harrow looks more like a IH then a John Deere. The only one i can find made by John Deere that looks something like yours is called a Ajax Special. The one thing that makes me think yours is not a John Deere, is that yours has straight levers. The levers on all of the John Deere's i can find are L shaped at the top.

Likely someone had extra green left over & painted it, I would not believe it is JD just because it has new green paint on it.

Is one lever mounted father to the front than the other? They should both be the same, generally on the rear.

Are these the bolt on spikes, or the clamp on type? Can get them at better farm supply stores.

Might help someone identify it if you can show or describe the clips in front that hook on to the main beam. Those were always a little different one maker to the next.

I have 5 or so spare sections laying around, plus (2) 4-section harrows. Bet I have 4 different makes between them. Not sure who made what. They go about $25 a section here in my part of the world, sometimes less.

How close are you to PA? I'll take some of those sections off your hands. Or at least shop around for some others. It took me awhile to come across this set.

Minnesota - sorry. :) Small-farming tools go cheap here - for now. Most of these are sold for scrap, to be honest.

Without knowing anything, those handles do look like IH stuff - but there is a whole lot of manufaturers, so I really don't know.

I suspect the same thing about the paint. The spikes are held on by "pointed" u-bolts. I am going to take some good pics this weekend and either post them or email.

Dad had a nearly new one when I was little. I think the manufacturing label was on the coupling bar(wood 2X4 with links to fit into the curly hooks on the front) which connected the two parts. In later years when I was using it the bar was worn clean.
I would think the teeth(spikes) are still available and the coupler bar can be fabricated.
It's a two horse pull or in tractor days as a drag for disk or drill, etc.

Doesn't look like mine. Mine has a frame around it, wheels with a drawbar and lifting interconnect and fixed tynes. It's a Deere, but has no ID plate so who knows.
