Hey folks, I just placed ads in the classifieds of Yesterday's Tractor and Today's Tractor for a spreader truck. If you're anything like me, I hardly ever look at the classifieds unless I'm actually looking for something I need. So, I was hoping that someone on this board might have what I'm looking for. Please take a look at my ad if you think you might be able to help me locate a cheap spreader truck or spreader trailer. Any leads appreciated. Thanks Gang!

Have you considered hiring a commercial trucker with a dump or walking floor trailer to haul it to your field? You could then reload it and spread it with a pull type spreader. With DOT regulations I wouldn't want to haul litter 25 miles with most of the spreader trucks I've seen. You'd be hauling 10-12 tons per load while a trucker could haul 20-22 tons. I've been looking for pull type litter spreader and here's what I've found. New 16' heavy specs $11,500-12,500. Light specs $9000. Demo $7500-8000. Well used $4500-5000. I'm told Spread Master is best followed by BBI, and Chandler. I've had trouble with the spinner gear boxes on a Chandler I rent and was leaning toward hydraulic drive.

David,
The best bed we have ever found is a Doyle bed out of Quincy, IL. My dad used them for years and other than a gear box in the high/low cracking once in a while, they were practically indestructable. I know you probably would not see one in your area, but if you ever see one cheap, jump on it, if you have a use for one.

Thanks for the info David. I checked into getting it hauled to the farm this past Spring since I do have a pretty good New Idea manure spreader. Came to find out it was actually going to cost me the same to have it hauled and dumped, then me spread it(fuel), as it would to have it hauled and spread. My advantage here is that I have a potential deal with a guy to trade hay for litter. I will be able to trade one round bale of hay for each load of litter. Seeing that I paid $65.00 a load for spread litter last Spring, even after I pay the fuel cost, that would be a real significant savings for me. So, maybe you can see where I'm coming from. Regardless, thanks for the info on the various brand names. I'm sure it will assist me in my final descision.
