I have a 1947 John Deere B and would like to find a No. 5 mower, a dump or wheel rake and a baler. Where are the best places to find good antique implements like this? Auctions? Print ads? I'm in Cincinnati,

David, In Cincy, the Tradin'Post newspaper is available almost anywhere. The Boone-Kenton Warehouse on Rt.42 in Florence, Ky (appx. 1/2 mi. west of Mall Rd., on the left) always has a large selection of used implements for sale or trade (the lot is interesting, but don't miss the stuff inside the building). You can subscribe (possibly free) to Fastline Publications which comes out either weekly or monthly depending on your subscription. You can always keep an eye on the classfieds here at YTMag and the posts at Rummy's JD page (www.johnnypopper.com). And local farm auctions are a good bet. Good luck!

In the northern half of Ohio there's a newspaper that comes out every couple of weeks called RFD News. It's a freebie inside one of those bags people hang on your mailbox. Since advertising is pretty cheap, and it goes to most of the farming areas it's about the best for auctions and individual ads. That, or something similar, is about the best I've found for anything that is listed. Tradin Times, if you have it down there, can be good too.

1. In our area we have a little paper called the "Swap Sheet", sold in mini-marts etc. Its all ads and you don't pay a fee until after you sell an item. I've had good success buying and selling old farm equipment here. You might have something similar where you are.
2. There's also a regional newspaper for farmers that has lots of ads. You have to subscribe to this and it might be harder to find. Your local farm equipment dealer should know about it if there is one in your area.
3. Auctions, especially dealer inventory reductions, consignment and hobby farmers. Study the listings in the paper. A commercial farm auction will probably have equipment that's all too big and expensive for you.
Happy hunting!

Does anyone know about the equipment auctions in Archbold, Ohio? I heard they have a huge amount of equipment but I am still looking for information.

Dale, if you live in Michigan, it must not be in the southern counties(where they farm) if you don't take the Farmer's Advance. They have auction ads from 3 states and you would have known everything you ever wanted to know about Archbold.
