IHC McCormick #245 Corn Planter

I just bought this planter for sweet corn and deer food plots. It came with the original manual (minus its outside cover) too.

I did a web search to try and find out about it and came up with zilch.

Any of you guys ever use this planter? I think it may have been sold new in the 1950's. The fellow I got it from told me it works perfectly, I would like to clean it up and give it fresh paint.

Thanks for the picture but I think one from the rear would be more revealing. If I knew how to post a picture here, I'd show what mine looks like. I think it was a horse drawn implement to begin with. Sad thing is, I don't know what has been removed, if anything. It has (I think) 3 cogs on the drive (wheels) axle and 2 on the planter box axle..maybe the other way around. There is a spring loaded tensioner with a roller that takes the slack out of the chain and the planter frame is jointed and has a big spring that acts like a shock absorber. Is this description plain as mud? Only fly in the ointment is one side seems to skip every so often and why, I don't know. Where it is most obvious is when you put say a pound of seed in each box, one side will run out quicker than the other. So far as what corn comes up, it is of little consequence. I still wonder what is causing it though. When i got this planter it was just rust brown all over. Only when I removed the seed boxes (hoppers) did I learn it was an IH. The hubs were still red and has the IH cast in them.

Could you possibly email me several pictures of your planter from all angles..I have one very similar to yours..older I think...but the markings are long gone. Mine doesn't have fertilzer hoppers either. If I could see the drive chain set up, it would be most helpful. I bought mine 20+ years ago for $20 and saved it from the junkpile. It works fairly well. If I could make a positive identification, perhaps i could buy the correct manaul for it. Thanks very much. Mark
