Hi, I just picked up an old 12A in really nice shape, realization of a 15 year dream. Looks like the cost of the combine is going to be the least of the expense, I'm looking at transportation 750 miles and building a building to keep it out of the weather. I have surpassed all my previous levels of eccentricity, and bless my wifes heart, she hardly batted an eye. I guess she's just given in after 15 years of marriage. While I'm not a farmer, I am fascinated with the history of the american agricultural experience, and bitter about the death of the american small farm. I've been dreaming about a hobby farm since I was 11 when my great grandfather died and left me $1500.00, unfortunatly life has had other plans for me so far. I'm hanging on to my dream, (if you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything) and I suppose this combine is a way to make it more alive. I'm new to all this, and hoping I can make some contacts with others who can educate me about this or other old combines of this era, their care, maintenance, and restoration. Any ideas about transportation would be appreciated, I've got till spring to get a building up and get it from PA to TN. I know right off the bat I need belts, but the canvas is in acceptable shape. while surface rust is minimal and I'm not aware of any rust through, it could use a partial disassembly and paint. It's not financially feasible for me to try to make a 55 year old combine new, but I would like to partially refurbish it, and maintain it for eventual occassional demonstration use. If I'm ever going to be able to haul this to tractor / implement shows as I would like, I'm going to have to develope an efficient way to transport this 107" wide machine. I suppose there should be a minimal level of disassembly that would allow me to put a narrow axle under it and allow me to haul it up on a standard size trailer? Well thats alot to digest, hope there are others out there for me to dialog with who are experienced, with these old combines. Thx. David
