I just bought a NH 782 chopper at a auction ....it has a 2 row corn head and a hay head also. Does anyone know if these are good choppers ??? and how much power do they take to run??? This 782 is 1000 rpm. I have 40 cows and only plant 25 acres of corn. My old chopper was a JD 35 with a 1 row head that I ran with a JD 2840 or my 2755. Is the 782 a better chopper than the 35????

The 782 was one of New Holland's best haresters. There are no weakness's. The are rated at 130 horsepower, but I know guys who chopped 2 rows with one with only 70 horsepower. As a rule of thumb, they do best at around 100+ horsepower. Steve

You should ask if it"s good before you buy! LOL :)
Just kidding. Yes, it"s a very good machine, and it will make that 35 look like a joke, especially when you see how far back into the wagon the 782 will blow material. A 2755 or 2840 is probably on the low end of what this chopper needs. Don"t expect to set speed records in good corn with the 2-row head and less than 100 HP.
