NH model 66 baler......I've got it working....

I got a NH 66 from a guy I work with for free. He had it sitting outside in a tree line covered in vines. I pulled it out and in tinkering with it for a few months, it"s now working well. I know there are issues with these balers jumping time and blowing needles through the wad-board. Are there any other issues I should look for? Thanks, Phillip

Great.

The suggestion from Hayfarmer about brakes is what I overlooked. My brake shoes wore out (different baler, but same process) and at the end, I was shearing pins in the flywheel on almost every bale. Seems my ram was hitting the stop cause my needle brake wasn't braking cause the pads were worn out.

Anyhew a new set of pads and 15 min installation time and haven't sheared a bolt since.

If things are right with the baler it shouldn"t jump time or blow needles. There should be a needle safety stop to keep plunger from hitting needles. Other things to check are proper adjustment of needle brake and needle lift linkage. If you follow adjustments in operator"s manuel all should keep working good.
