I was given a JD 850 series rake. It is complete and operational except for the right side wheel hub backing plate (the plate where the ratcheting pawl mounts) being broken. I have rigged a fix but we'll have to see if it holds up. Does anyone know where I could get a backing plate used? JD wants way too much for it.

BTW, anyone know how to tell if it's a 851 or 858 rake? Also, can anyone direct me towards a pic to help me paint it how it should be? The previous owner panted it a nbastly looking green, plus, rust has taken it's toll on that paint anyway. Thanks, Phillip

My brother has an 858a rake. It is original and has most of the paint. If possible, tomorrow I will take a pic and email it to you if you will give me your email address. I know those prices are pretty unreal. I repaired my brothers rake this spring and the piece that the dogs catch on when the rake is engaged were worn smooth so I built them up with the welder without removing them for a temporary fix, was going to replace the piece until I found out the price.
