Bush Hog brand box blade

Have an old Bush Hog brand box blade, but Bush Hog no longer makes the parts for it. It originally had six cast steel shanks. I"m told the cast steel is rigid and only breaks when the shanks catch something at the wrong angle. Our local welder can make some plate steel shanks, but he says they may bend too easily. It would be great to find an old box blade to cannibalize. Any suggestions on how to overcome this problem. Two shanks are missing.

What does your shank look like. Are there holes drilled in the shank for height adjustment or are there notches cut in the back side of the shank for the height adjustment. What size box blade is it. I'm looking at a parts book and I can check to make sure if it's available or not.

I have a Woods HD 7' box. The shanks that came with it are extremely durable. That said, I've still managed to break a couple. They are costly, and it takes a few days to get them, once ordered. To get me through in a pinch, I bought several King Kutter ripper shanks at TSC. They are MUCH cheaper. I modified them to work on my Woods box. End result....I will get a few more "cheap-o" KK shanks. They do bend before breaking, which is no worse than breaking, and like I said, they're much cheaper.

Look at several brands of box scrapers, and see what looks close. If you use a box much, you're gonna break a few shanks. That's just the way it is..... John

Check out a heavy equip bone yard you may be able to adapt some old shanks off an old road grader scarifer.

My apology for the double posting. The IE browser hung just as I clicked post and it didn"t appear to have posted the first time.
