I just got (inherited) a JD Model 52 plow. It is a 14" 2-bottom with steel wheels. It is still in good shape - little rust, most of the green and yellow paint, etc. The one wheel still has all of the tractions bars on it, also.

Can anyone tell me what year these were manufactured and the approximately range of value?

Thanks.

I asked this awhile back so this may not be totally accurate. I believe they were built from "34 to "47. Look at the trip assembly. If it"s enclosed it was built after "42. Hopefully someone will correct my years if wrong. I do know that is one sweet little plow and fun to use! (The trip action impresses some people even though it"s ancient technology) Prices range from $100 to $250 depending on condition. Not sure if both wheels had lugs, mine only has them on the trip mechanism side.

Plow hard,

The furrow wheel never had lugs because it is free rolling, the land wheel has because it has to have traction to do the lifting. I have never heard of the 52 having the enclosed clutch, only the 4B that is a heavery plow, those plows complete and with the steel on are very desirebable for use in antique plowing contests

The beams on mine are numbered 612 and 613 which I"m told are Model 52 beams. The only thing exposed is the spring and lever on the trip wheel. Not trying to be contraversial, just what to make sure I know what I have. Any other way to know it"s a 4B?

Schmidty

The 52 had a 28" furrow wheel, the 4B a 32" furrow wheel, lot of information in Green Magazine a couple of years ago with beam numbers and such

I looked for archives there but didn"t find any. Do you have a link? Thanks for the wheel diameter info.
