What plow pulled easiest??

Can anyone settle a family arguement? Uncle says oliver plows are known as easy pulling and IH pull hard, dad says olivers pull hard and IH is easy pulling. Both agree JD is hardest pulling of all. Can anyone give their thoughts on the subject?

FM: My opinion, these easiest pulling plow is the properly adjusted plow. I've seen guys with adjustments off by very little, turn the nicest working plow into the most miserable plow ever.

I think there were some poorly built plows, but for the most part plows built by IH, Oliver, JD, MH, AC, Case, etc. could be adjusted to work well.

I can"t conpare plows,but I pull a 4-14 IH Super Chief plow Behind my AC190 and IH756. It works well for me. I was told it was a good plow.

I plow with #60, #70 and #710 Auto IH plow.

I have plow with a IH 520 3-14s and a John Deere F145H 3-16s. The John Deere does a much better job, and pulls better and easier. Pulled the 2 plow with the same tractor.

I find this subject quite interesting, all of you who have replied so far make a good point. I will not argue with any of you. I just want to make one comment, if the plow which you consider to be the hardest to pull is not properly adjusted, or is sprung out of line because of abuse, then it will pull hard, and it will not do a good job, no matter what brand it is.

I thought the IHC Little Genius(SP) 214 pulled easier than #44 214 Deere. It seemed to hitch better. We tried to set the Deere by the manual.I think the draft has a lot effect on how hard it pulls. Moldboard pitch and speed you are trying to pull. Most of those old plows were 2nd. gear plows. Earl In Illinois

You"re right when you say you just can"t compare 2 plows by running them side by side unless each one is adjusted properly and run at the proper speed, dpeth, etc. that it works best at.
Also all plows of the same make are not the same. Oliver had RC bottoms and NC bottoms; NC would always pull easier. Also I believe IH had two different kinds of "Chief" bottoms available on the same model plow.

I have used alot of IH"s, Deere"s, Oliver"s, and Case"s..... ..... .Out of all those I"d rank IH"s and Oliver"s as the easiest pulling. I personally rather have an IH because the parts are cheaper. Deere"s and Case"s AWAYS pulled hard and I used a bunch of them.

The point of the story is, don"t listen to either one of them. Try acouple brands and develop your own opinion.

Started farming with an old, old AC, then went to Melroe, first 4-16, then 4-18. Then IH 720 5-18, added a bottom to go to 6-18. Then went to a White (Oliver). Twice. Because the White turns more uniform furrows than the IH. Many JD tractors pull IH plows, but when they go to the White and see the uniform job being done, they should stay with the White. IH 720 was popular, but I never liked how the front bottom would not reset properly if a cornstalk got underneath, holding the share up. A White trips, and resets right into the ground. When we plowed with both in the same field, I could pick out rounds from each plow because the ground was smoother behind the White.

My dad used oliver 3-16 behind the 400 but heres the good part he had 2-16 IH to pull with Oliver 70 but he put oliver Raydex bottoms on it so it would plow as nice as an oliver. Still don't know which pulled easier. My brother still has the 70 and IH plow. I have the 400 and just bought a 4 bottom IH to put behind it, should look nice don't know if I can pull it in this red clay. Wanted a 3-16 oliver but never found a nice one reasonable Thanks for letting m

in my experience oliver pulls easiest and ih pulls hardest i just sold a set of 2-12 ih trailer plows because the pulled too hard i had to use first gear and it worked the tractor to hard my dad has a set of jd 2-14 i can pull them in 3rd gear and it barely works the tractor i dont know model numbers but the ih definetly pulled hardest everything ih pulls hard even hay wagons. we used oliver plows on the farm they pull the easiest in our ground witch is pretty loamy.

I'd say Oliver. We have 3-16 and 4-16 Oliver semi-mounted plows and they pull pretty nice. They seem to roll the dirt over better also. About 10 years ago we hired our neighbor's to plow a 10-15 acre feild because we didn't have time ourselves to do it before the snow flew they have IH plows. Compared to our oliver plow, the dirt/residue just wasn't turned over all that great.
