The 1968 model that I have has both ball joint drives and I had that wear out. I prefer the model with the universal that attaches the pitman and crank. I usually see models that have the universal. Since it seems like it has been is active running condition,I would strongly suggest checking it out. You will be glad if you change from a sickle mower to a mo-co in my opinion.

I just did some machine work on a universal off my grandfathers PT-10. He broke a bolt off in the yoke. Went to the dealer for a new one, they did a parts search..... ....Not one left in the entire U.S..... Not one in our local salvage yard either(Everyone else much have broke theirs)..... ...I fixed the old one by drilling it out and threading a sleeve in with the original size threads in the center of the sleeve.

I don't think I would own one. He doesn't use it much and even though the machine was near new when he got it he seems to have alot of down time. I rode with him when he used it and I can make better time with our NH489 and do a better job. Not to mention the parts issue. I'd buy a NH and be done with it.

There are a couple kinds of the PT10,, the one with the hyd cylinder on top is good, I have had no trouble with this kind,,, the other has the hyd cylinder under the machine,, it also has a gear box up above the rollers and is run by a large rubber band looking belt, I had nothing but trouble with these, had 3 of this type and all were rotten,,,Jim

I've used a PT10 for 14 years and have not had as many problems as my brother with his NH and I put more hours on mine than he does. Parts seem to be a little expensive, but I have nothing to compair to. I have an early one that uses the ball and sockets on the cutter drive. You just have to keep the pitman drive tight and keep good gaurds int it and it will give very little trouble. The later ones with the u joint type pitman seem to be better. My only complaint is that it will plug up a little too easy in shorter grass.

I have a 110 (selfpropelled), 1967. I'm on my second one. Bought the first one in'73. Put stub guards on it if it doesn't have 'em already.

We used a pt 10 for years and never had a problem with it. Just minor repairs and maintenance.

I have a PT 10 and it has been a good machine for me. I would not call one solid junk. Yes it is an old machine and will not keep up with the newer ones. But a PT10 in good shape will work for a few acres. If you have been cuting with a sickle bar the PTT 10 will be a step up. A lot depends on how much and what type of hay crops you have. I can not cut late fescue with mine. But early cut fescue and clover it works good for me. I will say that I am looking for a newer machine to replace mine as I have outgrown its capabilities.

My experiences with heston are not good. I have never used a pt 10 though. New holland is good equipment, but tends to have a lot of part and seems to always cost more than other brands to fix.

Mine is the later model PT-10 with the small bellcrank drive for the knife. Cuts as clean as a whistle, better'n a NH and I've used both. They're noisy as the devil though so they give the impression that they're about to fall apart but once you get used to that they are ok. Easy to fix, don't take much HP to run, just don't try to do 10 acres an hour. Don't pay too much for it, around these parts they sell for a few hundred running. lots of parts machines around too. Good luck
