The rain won't stop, the hay is cut and in windrows. Can I chop this wet, green hay with out plugging? I'm just going to feed it directly to the cows, no silage. Then again, would it ensile? Thanks for any info. PK

go and chop we used to cut hay and chop right behind the haybine and put it in the silo. and we had a 717 keep the knives sharp and set tight and they will blow

Good luck chopping hay with a 717, been there done that. The cut and throw design makes the chopper liable to plug. IF you could get it chopped, I"m pretty sure it would go through the ensiling process, Ideal moisture would be around 40-50% depending on what your storing it in. THe cows will eat it green chopped pretty well, asumming it hasn"t been cut and laying in the windrow for weeks.

Hey Wheels, if a farmer is willing to keep the cutterhead drum set up close to the knives, a 717 will cut and throw wet haylage. However, if the drum gets too far away from the knives, a 717 becomes somewhat worthless. Steve

I believe you could chop it, but what will you do with it then? If you put in in your silo, it will spoil and kill your animals. Sorry, but you best wait for the sun. Steve
